Sample Letter: April 12, 2006 Dear Councillor: I am a resident of the Bloor West Village. I am writing to express my support for the decision April 4, 2006 by the York Etobicoke Community Council to turn down the re-zoning request for 2442 Bloor Street West, at Jane Avenue. (file 03 198594 WHY 13 OZ) Local opposition to this proposal has been unambiguous through months of fruitless meetings. The developer has made only minor changes and asks for exceptional zoning, on an exceptional landmark site in Bloor West Village, but offers only a mundane block tower. Residents have been warned that the developer might take the case to the OMB. In the event that the developer returns to the City offering to make changes to his proposal to avoid the OMB, I would urge you to engage in new negotiations with him on the following terms only: 1. That he proposes significant changes to height, massing and design. 2. That Council only allow a precedent setting exception to height restriction in Bloor West Village if it also orders an Avenue Study of the BVW commercial district. This type of study, already initiated unofficially in the Bloor West Urban Design Study, must be carried out to mitigate the precedent, and to provide a sound plan on which to base future development. Thank you for your attention to this important issue. cc: City Clerk Ulli Watkiss clerk@toronto.ca
